Open it the first time

  1. Unzip, drag Chimera into Applications, open it.
  2. macOS will say it can't verify the developer (Chimera isn't signed with a paid Apple account). Click Done, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
  3. Still says "damaged"? In Terminal run this, then open it again:
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Chimera.app
  4. If the macOS firewall is on, click Allow when it asks whether Chimera can accept incoming connections.

Chimera runs in the background with no Dock or taskbar icon. Its window opens in Chrome or Edge as an app window if you have one, otherwise in your browser. Open Chimera again to bring the window back. Quit it from Settings.

Questions

What is Chimera?
Each computer runs Chimera next to Ollama. When you press Connect, prompts from the pool run on your models and you earn credits. When you send work to other people's GPUs, credits move from you to them. Using your own devices is free.
Can I keep using my computer while lending?
Yes. Connect and disconnect with one toggle. If you disconnect mid-step, Chimera asks whether to finish it first or stop now and hand it to another device.
Is it private?
Not yet. The pool is open and unencrypted: the host can see prompts and so can anyone in the pool. Fine for friends, not for anything sensitive.
Why does my computer say the app is unverified?
It isn't signed with a paid Apple or Microsoft certificate. See the steps above.
Where are my settings and chats saved?
Only on your computer. Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Chimera. Windows: %AppData%\Chimera.
Which ports does it use?
7470 (the window, local only), 7480 (the hub, only open on the host), 7479 UDP (finding the host on your Wi-Fi).
